Satiate Studio

The studio

Two products,
run by the people
who built them.

Satiate Studio is a small software studio. We make our own things, keep them running, and answer the support email ourselves.

A studio is usually a shop window for other people's work. This one is a workshop — the products are the point, and there's nobody between you and the person who can fix them.

What we do

  • 01Build Settee and Collectd, and run them in production ourselves.
  • 02Own the whole stack, from the database up to the type on the page.
  • 03Answer support as the people who wrote the code.
  • 04Keep the stack small enough to understand end to end.
  • 05Fix the slow, boring things before adding the shiny ones.

How we build

Small stack

Fewer moving parts means fewer ways to be woken up at night. If a service isn't earning its keep, it gets removed rather than monitored.

Boring by choiceOne database

Ship behind a switch

Big changes go out dark, to one account, then to everyone. It means we can undo a decision in a minute instead of a release cycle.

Write it down

Every decision that took more than an hour to make gets a note. Future us is a different person with worse memory, and mostly what they need is the reasoning.

What we don't do

  • No outsourcing: the people who write it are the people who run it.
  • No growing the team faster than the work needs.
  • No selling on your data or your reading habits.
  • No dark patterns: no fake urgency, no hard-to-leave subscriptions.
  • No growth hacks that make the product worse for the people in it.
  • No sponsor logos on the products we run.

Support goes to the same place as everything else, and a human reads it. If you want the reasoning behind something on this site, ask.
